Nyanza showed up. Nyanza showed out!

What a day at the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Nyanza Regional Finals.

The Sports Tourism Limited team was on the ground to witness the action, energy, talent and unforgettable moments live from the heart of Nyanza. From the first whistle to the final celebration, the football was electric and the entertainment was in plenty.

Girls’ final: Plateau Queens make their mark

Plateau Queens – HEDSO Queens

Nyakach’s Plateau Queens delivered a dominant performance, with the next generation of Kenyan football stars putting on a show.

The individual brilliance did not go unnoticed:

  • Valarie Achieng — Best Goalkeeper
  • Imelda Akinyi — Nyanza Region MVP
  • Emily Adhiambo — Nyanza Region Top Scorer

These are more than tournament awards. They are signals of the incredible talent being produced right here in our communities.

Boys’ final: Awendo Academy crowned champions

Awendo Academy from Migori County delivered a statement performance to lift the Nyanza Regional title.

After Indomitable Soldiers stunned favourites Obunga FC 1–0 in the semi-final, Awendo Academy had the final word: four goals and the regional crown.

From Chapa Dimba to the World Cup

But here is what makes this story even bigger.

Some of the girls we watched competing at grassroots level have already walked a remarkable journey — from Chapa Dimba pitches in Nyanza to earning national team call-ups with the Junior Harambee Starlets.

Now, the journey continues:

Nyanza → Kenya → Morocco → the world.

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026 is waiting. The girls who once dreamed on local pitches are now preparing to represent Kenya on the global stage.

This is why grassroots football matters. This is why sports matter. This is why sports tourism matters.

Sometimes the next World Cup star is playing right in front of us — on a community pitch, in a regional tournament, waiting for someone to believe in her.

We did not just watch football. We witnessed the next chapter of Kenya’s football story.

From the pitches of Nyanza, we are saying: Twende Morocco!

Who knows? The next Chapa Dimba star could be Kenya’s next global superstar.
