Nakuru Came Alive!
Over the weekend, Sports Tourism Limited had the privilege of providing Sports Logistics services for Gor Mahia Queens during the FKF Women National Super League promotion playoffs at Afraha Stadium.
While football can sometimes deliver painful moments and the result may not have gone the way Gor Mahia Queens and their supporters hoped, one thing stood out beyond the scoreline — Nakuru stood still for women's football.
A Celebration Of Football
Fans traveled from different parts of the country to support their teams: Gor Mahia Queens, Elim White Ladies, Transnzoia Falcons Ladies FC, Mathare United Women FC, and Shabana Starlets FC. The chants, colors, drums, songs, and unmatched energy transformed Afraha Stadium into a true celebration of football.
And what a football spectacle it was! The FKF WNSL Championship clash between Mathare United Women and Shabana Starlets gave fans everything football promises — tension, resilience, determination, and drama. After a hard-fought 0-0 battle through regular time, the match had to be settled through penalties, with Shabana Starlets eventually emerging as overall FKF WNSL Champions.
Licensing Regulations Driving Change
Beyond the football, another encouraging development was on full display. The Football Kenya Federation Club Licensing Regulations, which require all FKF Premier League clubs to own, manage, or partner with a women's football team, are clearly having a positive impact on the women's game.
It was inspiring to witness the commitment shown by the management of the various clubs in supporting their women's teams. From providing team buses and technical support staff to ensuring the presence of key club leadership before, during, and after the matches, the ladies received the same level of support and attention traditionally associated with their male counterparts.
Such investments are critical in creating professional environments where women footballers can thrive and reach their full potential.
A Statement For Women's Football
Moments like these prove one thing — women's football in Kenya is no longer just growing; it is demanding attention.
