KENYA TAKES A MAJOR STEP TO PROTECT THE INTEGRITY OF SPORT!
MATCH-FIXING JUST GOT SERIOUS IN KENYA.
The National Assembly has passed the Sports (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introducing tougher measures against match-fixing and manipulation of sporting competitions.
And this is BIG for Kenyan sport.
The Bill, sponsored by Hon Irene Nyakerario Mayaka, provides a comprehensive definition of sports competition manipulation, covering practices such as:
- Offering or receiving undue advantages to influence results
- Conspiring to fix competitions
- Deliberately underperforming for a predetermined outcome
- Misusing insider information for betting
The legislation also strengthens the investigative role of Sports Kenya and gives the Sports Disputes Tribunal jurisdiction over related appeals.
And the consequences? Serious.
- Fines of up to KSh 1 million
- Up to 1 year imprisonment
- Forfeiture of matches
- Disqualification from competitions
- Potential lifetime bans in serious cases
- Forfeiture of financial gains obtained through manipulation
But beyond the penalties, this is about something much bigger:
