Something beautiful has been happening at Kasarani.
A Nigerian player came to Kenya to compete. But somewhere along the way, Amaka became everybody's favourite.
Kenyans have embraced her. Nigerians have cheered for Kenya. Kenyans have cheered for Nigeria. And volleyball has given us something that goes beyond the scoreboard — friendship, brotherhood and sisterhood between two great African nations.
When Amaka showed up to support the Malkia Strikers — Kenya Women's Volleyball Team — against Algeria, the message was powerful:
"We may wear different jerseys, but we are African."
And when Kenya celebrated Nigeria, the Nigerians felt the love right back.
This is exactly what sports tourism is about. Not just travelling to watch sport. Not just filling stadiums. But creating connections, experiences, friendships, memories and bridges between people and nations through sport.
